Our interactive school workshops offer hands-on learning experiences that inspire students to engage with nature, sustainability, and food production. Workshops can be held on-site at our market garden or at your school, providing flexibility for your group.

We recommend keeping groups to around 10 students per tutor to ensure the best learning experience. Larger groups can be accommodated upon request.

School Programme Lesson Selection

1. Regenerative Farming Principles

Students will learn and discuss the benefits of regenerative farming through exploring the methods we use on-site. They will discover ways to avoid chemical fertilisers and pesticides, create natural pest deterrents using companion planting, and improve soil health with composting techniques. Students will also get hands-on experience building ‘no-dig’ vegetable beds and understanding how regenerative farming supports biodiversity.

2. Growing Food Basics

Students will learn methods for sowing, growing, and harvesting a variety of fruits and vegetables. They will explore the life cycle of plants, from seed to harvest, and the importance of seasonal growing. Hands-on activities include sowing seeds to take home, identifying different soil types, and learning how to care for plants at different growth stages.

3. Renewable Energy & Waste Management

As an off-grid site, we make use of renewable energy and sustainable waste management. Students will explore solar, wind, and thermal energy, as well as rainwater collection methods. They will discuss what happens to waste, how to reduce it, and ways to repurpose or recycle materials. Activities include examining composting techniques, looking at water filtration methods, and exploring real-life sustainable solutions used at our market garden.

4. Natural Building Methods

This session introduces students to traditional and modern sustainable construction techniques. They will learn about natural materials like adobe (cob), straw, and reclaimed wood, and how they compare to conventional building materials. Through hands-on teamwork, they will build a small natural structure, such as a mud wall, recycled planter, or woven willow fence, while learning the benefits of using sustainable materials.

5. Biodiversity & Ecosystems

Biodiversity is crucial for a balanced and healthy ecosystem. Students will explore our wildlife pond, discuss the role of pollinators, and examine how different species support each other in an environment. They will also learn how to create habitats for wildlife in their own communities, from wildflower gardens to bug hotels, and understand the importance of maintaining biodiversity for food security and climate resilience.

6. Outdoor Cooking & Food Preparation

This hands-on session teaches students how to harvest, prepare, and cook fresh produce from our garden. They will explore different cooking techniques, learn about nutrition and seasonal eating, and discuss the benefits of cooking with fresh, organic ingredients.
